There should be 2 forums

A paid projects forum, and a non-paid projects forum...
What do you guys think?

agreed

i'm also agree about that, let user more choosing

Another forum? This forum isn't that big, isn't it?

I don't think we need a seperate forum, volume isn't that high, so much as conventions.

If the project is paid, add a "PAID: " prefix to the subject. If the project is unpaid, add a "UNPAID: " prefix. If its a community/open-source project (see the developer site thread) add a "COMM/OS: " prefix, etc.

The reason why I distinguish between unpaid and community/open-source/GPL is that there are some unpaid projects that benefit only a certain group and there are others to which the source code is revealed and many benefit.

I think folks should be able to post free money projects in the forum with out getting the thread shut down. :)

asking for free work is just as crazy as asking for free money.

they are in fact one and the same.

you guys have access to the source for everything i designed or scripted that i still have. but i need a little bread for custom work. i do way too much probono to not even be alowed to ask for free cash.

Definitley. Having a paid and non-paid forum would make things a lot easier to navigate.

am i missing something
isnt there "Hire a Programmer" forum that is strictly for paid projects?

That's mainly for a job, rather than project.
I conquer, there should be a paid, and a non-paid forum.

At the moment we have two forums:

Hire A Programmer:

Hire A Programmer forum for employers looking to hire for 'on-site' competent developers, and developers looking for an 'on-site' position.

Project Help Wanted:

Project Help Wanted forum facilitating a meeting place for people interesting in working on a project or projects 'off-site'.

So you think rather than on-site/off-site this should be changed to paid/non-paid?

yes they should be paid/non paid
for the hire a programmer, i have gotten a number of clients from there and did their project OFFSITE, and most of them post projects on there mostly OFFSITE, if i were to post a project that i would pay someone i would put it in hire a programmer regardless if its offsite or onsite.
so i think the descriptions of hire a programmer seem to get ignored now a days.
my 2 cents.

I'd prefer paid/non-paid.

Thank you for looking into this
if I could add more to this..
It seems that Hire a programmer is getting filled more and more with threads that really state the following "if you do x for us, we will give you x in the future if we ever sell the product"
I personally think that these types of threads that do not have a initial "money" offering should belong to "project help wanted" this way its clear where the paid projects are and non paid projects.

my 2 canadian cents.

When you guys n gals reach a concensus let me know and Ill see what I can do.

I don't minding sifting through either paid or unpaid posts, but the on-site/off-site is kind of ignored. There's outsourcing ads (er... 'posts') in both, and both are filled with on and off site offers.

Just a thought though... two boards increases the chances of cross posting and requires two checks. And there's not that many usually, right now on my front page I'm showing a weeks worth of posts for each... most boards have more threads in a week.

(personally I think it's fine the way it is...)

I think the concensus is as follow so far

Project Help Wanted (on/offsite)
- Free Help
- People looking for business partners
- People looking for people to do work for them and get paid when the project they helped with gets sold.
- People trying to put a team togather to work on a idea (free)
- Prgrammer/designers advertising their service for free

Hire a Programmer (on/offsite)
- Programmers/desingers advertising their service for a fee
- Anything that pays (meaning already funded)

Please everyone add or modify the above so we can come up with a concrete answer for admins.

Sounds good to me.

I can't think of any addendums, but I did want to voice my support for it. I think it would make navigation much easier, and while I would look into both, it would be nice to get the 'Paid if we sell it' posts in one area vs. actually paying job listings.

I think I'm pretty much in agreement and this seems to be what most people are in favour of. Anyone else want to put forward their comments before we send this to the admins?

They're not the busiest boards in the forum, but there are definitely ones with fewer posts per week. While people are more likely to cross post, I get rid of these pretty easily and I'm not sure I'd be in favour of merging the two forums together.
