I liked the info on authorisation however I think it could have gone a little further!
My usage would be - all to read but only user to 'PUT' eg. using Netscape composer to upload a file.
These articles are good, because they are short, sweet and simple.

Seems like Dev Shed always comes through with very imformative and concise articles and this is no exception. Any Apache Admin should check out these series of articles for useful information.

Hi

I have the problem that apache suddenly stops the logging to access.log

This happens now twice. After deleting all the entry in the logfile, apache goes on with logging.

Is there any limit of the capacity, because mostly if the file is more than 1 MB this sh.. happens.

Maybe somebody had the same problem or knows help.

Kind regard from vienna

But what if you have 2000 users whom you wish to have access to a restricted area of your site?

htaccess/htpasswd is great for access restriction so long as you don't mind typing in each username and password (twice) to build and encrypt the .htpasswd file.

Does anyone know of any way of mass-encrypting a file full of USERNAME:PASSWORD entries?

I can't believe this was overlooked by the Apache development team?!?

hi pablo and anyone else???

ive been thinking about this problem myself, in fact i want to take it much further in that after authentication i would like to give the user the opportunity to set their own preferences for the web site!

there is an authentication module mod_auth_mysql (well there are lots - check out the apache modules) that allow for this sort of authentication - i was particularly interested in linking it up to mysql!

has anyone done this? know of a good tutorial on how to go about this sort of thing???

cheers
steve

Excellent work! I found exactly what I looked for apache config to start virtual server. Thank you a lot.
