Web Application Developement With Oracle

I have designed a web application that has the basic functions of an e-commerce shopping cart site. I have been using the combination of php, and mysql.
However over time I have noticed shortcomings and would like to now migrate to oracle for future sites as my database. PHP is a great language, but I am wondering what Language would be EASIEST to migrate to and works BEST with oracle. Obviously this is all opinion best but any input would be great.

Well, oracle is really pushing java right now, so that might make sense to you. You should be able to stick with php and have no problems, though.

Yeah. you should really stick to PHP, unless you really want to learn and use java, (easier to go from C++ to Java if you know C).

MSSQLServer ------> ASP
MSAccess ------>ASP,C++
MySQL ------>PHP,Perl,Python
Oracle ------>Java.PHP,Perl

I know c++ and PHP is similar to c++, I would like to learn Java, My main concern with PHP is it seems to be slower on NT machines and that is what our Webserver/App server will be. Java just seems to be a faster application as well as a more robust language.

That is my only fear, running into bottlenecks. Because our current php sites run really slow in performance, granted some of it has to do with the coding of the last programmer, but it is slower.

Java or PHP????? ------->>Oracle

Well b/c you are using WinNT, and you plan to use OracleDB on Win NT, you might want to learn Java and use JSP(Java Server Pages) <like ASP to VB> with the Orackle database. And you should learn some Oracle PL/SQL and you should know that you can embed Java Programs <no UI> inside the Oracle DB.

How fast are you needing a finished product? Java is great, but it's got a pretty steap hump to get over before you're really productive. If you're in a hurry, stick with what you know. Otherwise Java is a good choice.

I already know PL/SQL to a certain point where I am effecient enough with it.

Bricker42,
3-3.5 Months to develope the Database and Web App. Now that you know my skills and time frame, should I stick with PHP or move to Java and JSP??

Well, I'd say go with Java if:

1) You're comfortable learning new languages and feel you can pick it up easily.

2) You've done similar projects in languages you're more familiar with.

If it takes you a lot of effort to learn new language or if you've never implemented an ecommerce shopping cart system before, I'd recommend you stick with what you already know and just dable a bit with Java on the side until you're more comfortable with it.

Otherwise I'd say go for it in Java. 3 months should be plenty ;).

Thanks,
I do believe i'll begin learning Java. It seems to me that the performance will just be that much better, plus it is not as advanced as a shopping cart, but has the basics of it.
I really appreciate the input.

Good luck :). We have a decent Java forum here if you need help along the way.
