Availablility of Firebird

I'm going to be doing a open source project using Firebird as the backend.

Will this be a great problem finding host who have a firebird DB available, as oppose to using mysql.

I know firebird is technically more advanced, and more feature rich which is why I want to use it, but I'm worried about the actual amount of servers running FB.

Anyone care to comment...

Aww someones gotta know!

I recall seeing a list somewhere of host's providing firebird support, just can't remember where it was. If I come accross it again, I will be sure to send you a link to it. Maybe you can create an installable package that hosts can use to provide with the cp software they are using.

I can host Firebird databases ... we are a new startup and will get our site done ASAP.

In the meantime ICQ me ( 170238697 [ Craig ] ) or email me ( Hawk@Bothware.com ) for more details ... we can offer any size hosting package at competative rates with mutliple support methods always available.

MySQL 3.23.56
MySQL 4.0.14
Currently installed.

I'm installing latest Firebird tommorow
And we may also provide PostgreSQL soon aswell.

Servers are Linux based and use Ensim Pro control panel software for maximum security and ease of use for customers.

Just tell us what you need and we'll arrange a custom plan.

www.reea.net (here i work ;-)) we do firebird hosting
(also postgresql , mysql) under linux , if you need we can
help you install ibwebadmin just ask for it :)

Yeah I'd like a copy of that if you come across it.

So very few companies then :(

There was a discussion this year on the developer list (or general?) about this and some
more hosting firms popped up , not many but you can look in the archives ...

If the software is going to have pre-requisites which are barely available, then would it not be more appropriate to develop the software so it could run with either MySQL or FireBird ?

Alternativly, you could just add a list of suitable hosts to your project page(s) for it ?

Our URL will be http://www.WebLandLord.net once it's up and running ( server is already on ) .... I know a lot of other hosts, several of which would be willing to install Firebird ... just don't expect any larger companies to follow suit in the near future.

However in the longterm the number of hosts will hopefully grow decently.

You can get reliable and very affordable firebird hosting at dbhosting.crs-net.cz (http://dbhosting.crs-net.cz)
All kinds of connectivity available (TCP/IP connectivity for use from applications, connectivity from PHP scripts ....).
