Character Encoding Problems - can I change the Encoding???

Hello Everybody,

Our application uses the IPlanet LDAP Server 5.1.
The entries (many containing special characters) in our LDAP server have been saved using the Western European Character set, since they were all created using a script written in Macromedia ColdFusion 5. I understand that our LDAP server then saved them as Unicode. When retrieved, these characters are displayed back to the browser correctly using the Western European Character set.

When using the Softerra LDAP Administrator to rename a group with special charaters in the name, the special characters are saved as Unicode, and then are displayed incorrectly to the user in the browser (that uses Western character set).

We subsequently have one large collection of data saved in LDAP as Western-European, and any entries (containing specual characters) that are modified or created by using the LDAP Administrator are saved as Unicode.

Is there any way to force LDAP Administrator to use the Western European Character Set? We need to be able to modify entries using the character set in which they were created.

Thank you in advance.

I'd have to aggree with the guy in the LDAP Admin forums :) http://www.ldapadministrator.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=151

One thing you could do would be to create a webpage/app that you can modify your info with that keeps the encoding.
