I bought a amd athlon 2500 and asus motherboard a7nx or something

On my computer in system on control panel. It says my computer si 1.09ghz it's really a 2.4ghz how do i fix this? What's the safest speed to overclock my motherboard to and my geforce ti 4400 to?

if your board did not come with a user manual, download it from the asus site, on the motherboard next to the ram slots there is a jumper that must be set to the speed of the cpu and ram, called a dram jumper, this is for dual, or even triple supportive boards, if you put a duron on the same board it's speeds would be different. the reason for this, if anyone remembers the first pc2100 boards(even asus) had alot of problems, it was from trying to detect the speeds of different processor/ram setups.

So how would i fix this? On my system information it says this image is below.. But it really is a 2.4 ghz amd 2600 and i don't know why it says that...

One more thing, What's the safest speed to overclock my motherboard and video card?

http://www.asuscom.de/products/mb/socketa/a7n8x-x/jumper.htm
that screen shows you exactly what to look for and what the bus speeds are for the pin settings. set these to the 333/266 position.
as for the overclock on athlon, you have a athlon 2600 which is supposed to mean you can safely over clock to 2.6 gig, this can be done in the bios. as for anything else about overclocking i do not get into these matters, 1 it voids warranty on the cpu and motherboard, 2 i try to help people fix their computer, this can have the opposite effect. 3 not to sound like a smart a$$, but if you don't know how, you probably don't need to. for the simple reason it can fry your stuff. you have to monitor your temperatures, make sure you have enough cooling and be willing to work around alot of stability issues.

So how do i fix it man so on my system info that it says 2.2 ghz not 1.09 ? Is this fixed by the jumpers? I put the jumpers in right. Do i need to download any drivers?

the link i posted on my last reply shows exactly, where to look and what to look for, your system must have that jumper set to a 200mhz front side bus, if you change the position as show in my afore mentioned link you will be good to go, if this does not fix you , you have the wrong ram, or cheap ram that does not register properly, i dont know of anyway possible to explain this any better, i even provided pictures.

k thanks. Probably put in wrong wire.

What jumper is that exactly? Do i put it by the hde?

What jumper do i put in the CPU_FSB? I saw jumpers like power d3- gnd that are just hanging i couldn't figure out which jumper to put their..

To answer your original question about why does it show 1.9 instead of 2.6....

Remember that the 2500+ is just to tell you that it is equivalent in performance to a Pentium chip. Although it performs at the same level as a 2.5ghz P4, the clock speed is not actually 2.5ghz. It is only 1.9ghz. Windows is showing you accurate information. I would not recommend trying to overclock it til it show 2.6 in windows. You'll blow it up.

The pins you talked about power d3- and gnd are for your usb ports on the front of your case (if any)

You will probably have 2 rows of 5 pins with 1 pin missing...

they will be labeled something like this...

power | d2+ | d2- | gnd

. . . . . <---spare
. . . .

power | d3+ | d3- | gnd

No disrispect to yourself chaldoray but i think you should take your system to a local pc shop, its a VERY small job.

Or if you are really determined then find out the exact mobo type and post it here...

in reply to raklet:
He put 1.09ghz :) i think that a 2500 still runs at 1.9ghz and his fsb is set wrong....

D.

Nope, No thanks i ain't taking it a pc shop i well figure it out myself.

So just tell me which one is the fsb jumper?

Or if you are really determined then find out the exact mobo type and post it here...

Did you read my post?

If you tell me exactly which motherboard you have i will find out which jumper you need to change and what the setting is.

As known_criminal already told you, if you go here:
http://www.asuscom.de/products/mb/socketa/a7n8x-x/jumper.htm
and that is the same as your mobo then move the shown jump to the top position.

You have given conflicting info, in your thread subject you put that you have a 2500 and aren't sure which mobo.

Then you said you have a 2600 running at 2.4ghz, i can tell you that i'm running a 2600 and it runs at 2.083ghz at 333fsb

This is what yours should run if it is a 333 fsb AMD Athlon 2600.

If you want to take a chance and then just move the CPU_FSB to the other position (pressuming it has 3 pins, if it doesn't put a jumper on it)

Don't come crying if you fry your mobo tho!

D.

the picture on the link posted above is correct to his motherboard, unless he posted the wrong model, it even shows the jumper settings, i gave up because i couldnt possibly think of a way to explain it any better. as i said, i used pictures.

Yeah, That's the same as my motherboard i have a amd 2500.. I have no jumper by the cpu_fsb............

If you have the mobo you posted, then they have given you pictures and a crystal clear explaination of what to do. If you still can't figure this out, you're going to have to take it to a pc shop, because this isn't going to get any simpler, short of having someone do it for you.

i switched them and it stills shows the same thing 1.09ghz

By "them" you mean the jumper for the fsb speed, I assume? Have you tried checking your processor speed with software other than what comes with windows, in case this is just a windows snafu? Make sure you have the latest bios for the board, there can be problems with older versions. Also, check the multiplier in the bios. If it says "11x100", change it to "11x166"

sounds like the clock speed is set to 100MHz in the bios instead of 166MHz - change it to 166 if your cpu is a 333MHz fsb Barton - basically half of the fsb of the cpu - so for 266 its 133 etc...
clock multiplier for a 2500 is 11.5 as far as i am aware - 166MHz * 11.5 = 1909MHZ or ~1.9GHz

i have an asus a78nx deluxe - there are only two settings for the fsb via a jumper and they are 200 only and 400/333/266 - the jumper is located just to the left of the chipset (heatsinked) if you take the cpu as being the top of the board - look at the site as the others said, the jumper info is there
i have a 3000+ which runs @ 2.166GHz - or 13.0 * 166MHz

afaik its the clock multiplier that you adjust if you want to overclock and kiss your processer/money behind - and you WILL fry your cpu unless you know what you are doing and can afford ridiculous cooling soultions - even then its pot luck, every cpu is different.

**********
multiplier is 11.0 NOT 11.5 as far as the below says, sorry
