no boot problem

I am building a new pc and here are specs

AMD Duron 1.3 GHZ processor
256 PC SDRAM 133 Micron RAM
AGP Video Card
Syntax SV266 motherboard

I tested the motherboard and processor at store and it works fine. but when i put it into the case the fan powers on but no video signal and no beeps. I hooked in the speakers into the mother board. I reseated the memory and video card. I took out the battery to clear the CMOS but still no beep or video signal. When i unplug the ide cable from the hard drive it sounds like its reading but when i plug the ide cable back in it stops making the reading sound but its still spins.

if the motherboard and processor worked fine at the store, what is different at home, ram, power supply, video card? the only thing i would hook up/ attactch would be the ram and video card, and the power supply, if the problem still occurs, it has to be one of them, does your motherboard have on board video? if so did you disable it, may have to boot up with the onboard, disable it, then reboot with the new card in, if youre ram is different then what was used at the store, are you sure you have the right ram, if the ram is ecc, the board may not support it, or some boards dont support double sided chips, i am not sure of your board, there are many sv266 boards, they have a letter like A or AD or M , so i can only speculate. the ones i looked at were dual supportive of ddr and sd ram. you can use one or the other, you can not mix the two.

the only difference is the case that i put it in. the board is sv266A
. The board doesn't have onboard video. I was wondering if the board was grounded would that stop the drive from reading when it is connected to it.

if the only difference is the case, then take your motherboard out and see where the fasteners are in conjunction with the motherboards mounting holes, if the case has a riser(stand, fastener) in the wrong place it can cause a short between circuits., you can remove all your hardware from the case and hook it up to test it, use the anti static bag the board came in to lay it on.

I am having a similar problem with the same board, Duron 1300, AGP Video, 40GB HDD, CDROM. When turned on system would run for a few seconds and shutoff. I shnaged to a larger power supply and system ran for ~15sec and shut off. I am out of solutions at this point. If you found a solution please let me know.

Thanks.

did u get a post-beep or did the fan just spin?
did u get a signal through the monitor?
please post all the specs.

in my case it was a faulty power supply that was under warranty.
