Hi, i'm having some random freezings in my W2K, and i can't figure out what is the cause. Could it be a high cpu temperature??
Is there a soft for win where i can monitor cpu temp?

Random freezing could be due to cpu temp, inconsistent power supply, cheap ram, or other reasons. http://mbm.livewiredev.com/ has freeware to monitor your cpu temp and some other settings.

AMD tells me the Temp of my XP could go up to 90 degrees (C)before frying on me. My current temp is around 55 degrees celsius and I find that too warm. What is AMD pulling on me here? Do they want me to overheat my CPU, so I'll by an new one?

Maybe 90 C is the max before the chip is completely useless, but you'll start getting unstable and possible damage at a much lower temp. And while they are probably not trying to mislead completely, buying another CPU would hardly make them sad. :)

I have an Athlon 2400+ (2GB) overclocked to 2.2GB. It now identifies itself as a 2700+. I have the side off and a desk fan blowing on it. The idle temp is around 39degc which can increase to 50 when under constant stress.
I don't like a temp above 50 although I don't know what the normal temp should be! - Can anyone suggest a general temp for normal operation???

The temp 39-50 is not a bad temperature for an AMD processor overclocked (but its not great). What kind of heatsink/fan are you using?

my temp:
AMD Athlon Thoroughbred B 2100+ overclocked to 2700+
-I moved the FSB from 133 to 166
My idle temp is around 30 at full load temp is 40.

I have a Thermalright SLK-800a heatsink and an antec 80mm fan on it running at 2900RPM.

It's just the one that came with the pack. Cost about 15GBP so not great. I as using MBM5 to monitor. System temp is around 28 - 30.... But here is the strange thing. I have swithched back to 2Ghz (2400+) and there is no change in temp! Although I have read that the temp monitors can be up to 10degs out...

OK so I got me a new cooler and overclocked to 2218MHz. My idle temp is 37 - 39 and full load now only goes up to 46. I still have the side off and a desk fan in place!
My FSB is 133 and the multiplier is set to 16.5 (I took the muliplier route to suit my other hardware)...

The unit is in the living room so the room temp is warm... I think I should be OK with these temps running at the equiv MHz of a 3200+....

I must admit though, if I ever got to 90 then I would pull the plug!!!

When your CPU running at 100% usage. Temperature of 50C - 60C is consider above normal in AMD chip (XP 1600 - 3000+). For Intel P3, P4 processor, the temperature is lower. normally will stay at 40s running at 100%.

My PC willl start to frozen once the temparature hitting 52C for Intel P3 and 55C for AMD. You might want to cool down the cpu with different way. For example,
1) check the heatsink to ensure there's sufficient therma grease between your cpu and the heaksink contact point.
2) get a better quality heat sink.
3) Lower your room environment temperature.
4) Make sure the air circulation in your tower case is good - to reduce heat build up. If necessary, open the case cover to increase additional air flow?

I live in an attic and some summer days it can get above 100F (38C) up there. My older computers would "freeze" (ironic, isn't it, my computer is frozen while I'm soaking in sweat wearing nothing but a pair of shorts!) Typically I found that the computer would stay on but the input devices would not longer input (mouse, keyboard) but things that were running seemed to keep running.

My more recent computers seem to handle the heat ok. I dedicate a small household fan to circulate the air behind the PC in addition to the ones built into the case. My ASUS MB comes with its own monitor, and it has never read higher than 120F (49C) even on the really hot days. But I'm not overclocking, either.

Different motherboard might have different reading.. one of my system AMD 2000+ running those cheap Amptron motherboard constantly at 58C while running 100% CPU time folding protein. if the room temperature is cooler, than it will fall to 55C or so.... otherwise, it might be standing 62C when all the windows in my room is close with no aircond. It freeze only when reaching above 62C.

I'd add more fans and/or reseat the heatsink and/or get a new/better heatsink. Thats just too hot.

I am running an AMD 2600 OC'd to run as a 2800. I have found a very nice cpu fan and heat sink here,

It has adjustable speed from 1900~3500 rpm's. Mounts nicely in an open floppy drive slot. I also have 6 case fans positioned for maximum air flow throughout. My temperatures are pretty consistantly at around 34-36C. Even after playing FarCry with all of the video options to the max, the temp was 100F or 36C. Not bad!!!!

Remember not to neglect your fans...keep them dust free and make sure you have an equal amount of inward and outward air flow....

Hey guys I have an amd athlon 2.6 and it is heating up to 85 degrees and that is just looking at it in bios. The fan is a volcano 9 and its at full power 5200rpm which is very noisy. Im using coolermaster thermal paste. I have 2 other processors that are identical and they give me no problems whatsoever in this motherboard. The settings are simply set to auto. the board is a K7TRITON GIGABYTE 7N400-L1

What on earth could cause this CPU to be getting so hot? do you think I have a case to send this back to where i got it from? its about 11 months old now, it was like this when i bought it. I just put it in a pc i dont use very much and forgot about it but now its bugging me. Cheers for any input :)

lol My p4 2.6Ghz is running at 71�C almost melting....
Idle is usually around 55� and its not overclocked
ARGHHH i have a thermaltake A1715 cpu cooler running at 6000rpm :eek:
Both sides of my case are full open
MOBO temp is 35�
Room temp is 20�C

I dunno what is causing the temp being so high :mad:

I would make sure you're getting good contact between the heatsink and the cpu. If you haven't already, try some arctic silver 5 thermal paste and reseat the heatsink, checking to be sure you have complete contact.
Also clean off any dust build up.
Where are the temp readouts from?
And in the future, make your own thread.

I just installed the thermaltake cpu cooler yestarday...
I replaced the stock hs/fan yestarday couse my cpu temp readings were too high but thermaltake is not helping :(
i used the thermal paste that came with the thermaltake cooler, wich being new is clen and shiny.

The temp readouts are from my BIOS, wich are equal to Fuzzy Logic 4 (lil proggy that comes with my MOBO)

I just installed hardware sensors monitor ( hsensor) and it reads 5�C below my BIOS/fuzzy logic 4 wich is almost the same as we are speaking of very high temp's

I just managed to raise my cpu temp to 85 (yes eighty five degrees celsius ) playing a game :eek: :eek: :eek:
And the cooper heatsink is well pressed against cpu and the fan is at 6250rpm +/- lol

I dont know how it doesnt melt lol... it is working fine and i cant believe it hehe

but when playing games my pc reboots itself alot and think is becouse cpu temp :confused:
