CPU Temperature

I have a AMD XP 1600mhz (which runs at about 1300mhz). What should to CPU temperature be around at most times? My computer keeps screwing up and I think it might be the CPU temp.

Your CPU should be running around the mid fourties. when my Athlon XP 2000+ went belly up it started reaching 60-65, and would cause random access violations in applications every 10 minutes. I found if I dropped the bus speed form 133Mhz to 100Mhz it would stop the crashing, but the processor still burned away at 60 degrees. In the end I bought a new CPU and managed to break both the new one and the old one in the install. Good job me!

My crappy athlon (2000+) usually goes up to 55 degrees when fully used. I know, it's a bit on the warm side. But hey, it's an athlon afterall. With the extreme temperatures heat now, it reaches the 59 degrees celcius. :(

I think this might be my very last Athlon. I like them because they're not WinTel. But these temperature problems keep annoying me. On top of that we all know an AMD blows up without a warning when they get too hot.

Sounds like you guys need better CPU cooling:

OMG you guys think 55 and 60 degree is bad. I think i might have a real problem.

I have an AMD xp1800. Vocano 7 Plus heatsink.

At normal loads the temperature is about 64* Degrees. and when iam playing CS. it goes up to 75 degrees.

i got 2 extra case fan and the cpu is running at 5000rpm.

Why am i getting such a high temperture???

Try reseating the heatsink. Take it off, clean the thermal paste off, and reapply a thin, smooth layer of thermal paste, then reattach the heatsink. Also, be sure the area around the case is clear so you get good airflow from your fans, and remove any dust buildup.

You should be able to keep a CPU temprature of 35-40 C.
It all depends on your case, the cooling and the air temprature in the server room.
No real need to worry unless the temp is getting close to 60 C

Ive got mine down to 35 degrees, after 4 hrs

One of the things I learned is that temps can be variable from computer to computer. My hubby and I have supposedly identical motherboards and cpus, but mine was running in the 60s and his low 50s. He updated the bios on mine and now it registers in the mid 50's. Still hotter than his but a lower reading. So go figure.

I sure hope you guys' temperature is in celcius, because according to my computer, mine is usually 130 degrees in fahrenheit. That's usually what it's around. And if it's supposed to be lower, I don't know what to do. I have a good CPU fan, 3 side fans, and one freezer fan. Hopefully that's normal.

Temps are in C.

My CPU temperature is usually 130 - 148, in F, and it's always been that. Is there anything I can do to decrease it? Hope so. One last thing. If I keep my server on 24/7, how long do most servers last?

What brand of cpu? AMD's run hotter than P4's. Else, you can try reseating your cpu fan with good thermal paste spread evenly in a thin layer, getting higher flow rate fans, and putting the computer in a cooler place (like a basement or airconditioned room). Be sure nothing is obstructing air flow around the box. Life depends, manufacturers give expected service lives of components, you could look those up.

Well, if your experience, what are most server's lives? Hopefully more than a year. Also, what is the most uptime of one of your servers? Hopefully a month or so. My CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 2800+.

Does any of u know ZALMAN cooling systems ??? they are really good at making fast lownoise supercoolers...

I have a AMD Athlon xp 1900+ and thx to zalman the temp. is 38 celsius when idle and MAX. 50 celsius when i play my games.......

BTW..... 20 db.... is that much ?? :D

(have magic shield + whisperbox installed in/on my cabinet..)

I have a Zalman too, works very well, nice and quiet. 20db is below a whisper, so no, if you're accurate that is not too loud.

hum..
I have an Athlon XP 1700+ (1440 mhz), I never had any problems with it until this month (I bought a good heatsink and fan)...

The problem arise not from the heat (it's closer to 40ºC outside and I have no AC), last year in the summer the temperature reached 47ºC, and no problems at all
In the house (summer) it's 10 degrees bellow comparing with outside...

I thought I should take a closer view of my cpu...maybe the fan was dying... (My system was crashing more than usual...)

I take out my copper heat dissipator (heatsink) and it was FULL of CRAP.. consistent DUST...allmoust cotton.
No wonder my cpu was getting 65-70ºC...

In the process I broke up my motherboard (excelent with a decent chipset not via but SIS, never had any problem with that chipset, Now I am having problems with my soundblaster live...
I have to to open SEVERAL PROGRAMS to prevent scratchy sound...
really crap chipset VIA makes...
(KT600), I should bought another SIS motherboard...
that bothers me...why I didn't?
:(

It was my sweat that might had broken that motherboard...I was with extreme care, but ....I was sweating like crazy...
maybe some drop with magnificent conductivity properties (water with salt)..
:(

Now, I am having no problems...(only that annoying sound problem)
system 47ºC cpu 53ºC
I guess considering the enviroment temperature this is excellent.

I will never buy an Intel cpu again..
this XP is working like mad...
24h per day 7 days per week!
;)
excellent!

Regards from Portugal! (sorry about my poor english)

Mine is XP 2400+ and the Temp. is 40C and it goes higher and higher. So i have to switched it off when the temp reached 60C to avoid crash. Does anybody know where to get Zalman Cooling system or any other good cooling system within India ?? Thanks.

i use a thermaltake volcano +7....somewhat loud on high setting.but on a medium setting i get about 32c under load
