CPU fan not working

My CPU fan stopped working. I disconnected and reconnected it several times- no change. Initialy I tought it was the fan inself, but just to be shure I put in on another computer and it worked. Where is the problem- PSU or the motherboard and how can I diferentiate which of them is the troublemaker?

If everything on the Mobo works except the fan header...

Get an adapter so you can plug the fan into one of the power leads coming straight off the Power Supply. Or, get a fan that plugs directly into one of the Power Supply leads. Bypass your mobo and see if that takes care of it.

Everything but the fan works fine. I was thinking about bypassing the mobo, but I have concern about this. The processor is 1.6MHz Pentium 4.There is some electronic control of the fan's speed. Will this control work if I bypass the mobo?

The mobo can detect how fast the fan is spinning. I don't think the mobo controls the fan speed. You will lose the ability to read the fan's rpm. I think some mobo's will give you trouble if they detect the CPU fan not spinning but you may not have a problem with that. Most all of the heavy duty CPU fans plug directly into the power supply leads. I have a Volcano 11. It plugs directly into the power supply leads with a little wire going to the mobo header so you can read the rpms through the mobo.

I found an adapter with plugs for the fan and the mobo and now everything is fine.Thenks for the help.

I have similar problem - I replaced the fan with a new one still did not see the fan running. I haven't try to plug directly into other power supply leads. Anyone tell me how many of such power supply leads avaiable there and any risk of doing that. Are they all 12V ? If I do that, does it mean the fan will run all the time no resting?

I had to take mine apart and clean all three fans to get them working.Just a thought!!

I had faced this problem but i didn't take it seriously. For being unconscious my processor has been destroyed. So always be aware when your CPU fan in trouble.

how can i replace the cmos battery.........................reply me plsssssssssssss......
