I just built myself a new computer for the first time. I'm having trouble with this Intel Active monitior but i don't want to just shut it off incase i'm wrong. I've gotten the CPU to stay in the 45-60C range and System Zone 1 to Stay in the 35-45C range but , System Zone 2 keeps hitting 55 C. Now I have 3 frans on intake in the front, 1 on the Side also intake, 2 fans in the back on outake. Not to mention the Graphics card fan and the Heatsink/CPU fan.
Now after reading alot of the posts I don't see any other temps posted other than CPU temps so I made a thread. If you guys could tell me what the proper temps are for System zones 1 & 2 that would be great! And if i'm doing anything wrong with the coolling setup.

mine is P4 2.66 ghz with H.T. technology with m/b intel 865 gbf.
I am also having same problem,Try to increase sensor threhold values.
It is only when we trying playing games.i have increased it to 70
system works fine if temp exceed this limit,it return to normal in 5 sec.
It may be a problem with intel active monitor software itself.
I search on intel site a new version of is intel active monitor availiable,we can try it out.
Please tell me the symptoms when system overheats.
I have no problem in listening songs and playing high graphics game simultaneously.
Performance is best fan speed increase about 4500 rpm.
proccessor zone temp is 68 degree celcius by default which never exceeds.
System zone 1 also have no problems.

I had the stock Heatsink and CPU fan from Intel for my P4 but, After reading in the forums. I found they used a thermal patch between the heatsink and the CPU which after read many posts and i agree is Junk. Cause my Cpu temp would always go up to 70 (some times higher!) the minute i tried to run a game! So I got the Cool Master Jet 4 which came with some better (Thermal Goop?). Now my Cpu stays in the 45-60 C range.
System Zone 1 has never given me problems either. But System Zone 2 keeps hitting 50 C, Which sets of the intel active monitor. Then i get pop up alerts until i shut down the currant program. Usually it is a game. I'm afraid to rasie System Zone 2 Threshold , I really don't want it to melt after spending all the time and money putting it together.
So i'm looking to find out what is System Zone 2, and what is it ok to raise the temp to without damaging my system.

The system zone 2 is the zone where RAM is installed.i.e.
the dimmslots.
system zone 1 is the zone near the processor zone.
You can increase it to any value,since these values are
approximate,if god forbid system overheats then it will be
shutdown automatically.

i have a P4 3Ghz on a Intel D865GBF mb with 2-512MB DDR Ram(KingstonHyper X) running with the HT.
I just recently installed the Active Monitor and my System Zone 2 Alarm just keeps going nuts. It seems to only do it when i play games. i read the previous posts and was just wondering what the threshhold could be be safely set to. i have heatsinks on both the RAM chips. Currently its set to 50 C. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with System Zone Alarm but don't cofuse the alarm setting with a shutdown setting. I've installed a cpu/mobo alarm system on my PC but it's just that, an alarm system. You can set the alarm threshholds whereever you want them. If your Alarm keeps going off, you have 3 options, change the PC to keep it withing the alarm range, change the alarm ranges or deal with the constant alarms. On my PC, the -12Volt alarm is constantly triggered. I can't fix that so I raised the alarm range.

I honestly think that the Intel D865Perl boards are prone to this problem. I have the following system:
Intel 3.2 GHz HT CPU
Intel D865Perl motherboard
I GB RAM
NVidia 6800 Ultra 256MB graphics card
I don't believe the other components make a significant difference, but I have 3 case fans and an exhaust blower and my system 2 sensor also exceeds the threshold. It never seems to go higher than around 55 or 56 degrees Celcius, so I have decided to try and live with it, but it is frustrating...

Apparently either the intel machines are really slow due to the load it received in this simple test, or they just dont know how to design chips anymore

Demon Dual Fan 580 Watts Power Supply
My cooling solutions besides the demon dual fan power supply are one Thermaltake cooling system which consists in one rear blower extractor and one front fast and noisy fan. There is also another fan in the acrylic panel of the case, and finally a three in line fans for my SATA HDD installed below it.
All the mentioned solutions have appeared due to my great anger with the zone 2 alarm of the motherboard. I started with two fans and now I am with the configuration mentioned but with no success. I start a game and the alarm begins to sound. Sometimes also bothers the Processor Alarm but this is more strange due to the fact I dont notice any performance decrease. I know you can always turn the active monitor off but I am afraid that maybe I am killing my PC and the alarms are right. The same happened to me with my old Intel MB MD850.
Two facts may cause the problem...My case is a generic one...I mean it is a large and tall case with lot of ventilation but it isn’t a Thermaltake with all its Thermal Certifications. I really don’t know if having a good Thermaltake case would solve the problem. The other fact is that my room is a small one with a thick floor carpet and the PC is standing in a corner of the room. With two walls behind may be there isn’t any room for the air to flow.
Although I believe the two facts mentioned above may have some importance in the temperature impact, with all the cooling systems I have inside my case I really think this should be enough ( really I don’t know what else to add ). I have also kept the case opened and even my windows full open and the result is the same even only viewing a DVD movie.
One more thing. Keeping my PC idle, I mean without running any application I have loaded the active monitor and have been watching for nearly half an hour the temperature readings. I noticed something important that I would appreciate if anyone can confirm. I can assure that my problem isn’t a temperature one, because the threshold isn’t constantly passed. I mean, what triggers the alarms isn’t a constant 60º ( for example) temperature reading in Zone 2. It is rather constant fluctuations in the readings. I have seen in this half an hour of observation variations of temperature reading from 32ºC ( sorry I cannot remember the conversion to ºF ) to 48, or even 52 ºC in less than 2 seconds and from Zone 1, Zone 2, etc. So the alarms triggers by this variations and not by a constant high temperature. I also have played a heave 3D game, and after 15 minutes of alarms sounding I have minimized the game and loaded the active monitor to see all temperature readings higher than in idle PC mode ( that’s obvious ) but the same strange and great instantly reading variations from 50ºC to 80 ºC in less than 2 seconds. My knowledge in thermodynamics tells me that it isn’t likely for a system to have more than 10 ºC of variations in so little time. So I think the problem is in the readings not in the temperature itself. Can someone check this?
I have tried BIOS and Active Monitor upgrades without success. I have also reinstalled Windows XP…So I really don’t know what to do. I don’t want to spend more money if the problem cannot be solved and since my only other step is buying an expensive Thermaltake Case, I will feel cheated if after buying it the same alarms began to sound. Also I have thought about an independent panel to read temperature with probes in all my important hardware gadgets. But that panel in my country cost half the price of a Thermaltake Case, so maybe it is better to buy the case right away. But the panel may give correct reading. Have anyone checked temperature readings with panels like the Hardcano from Thermaltake or the AeroGate from Coolermaster?. This would be an useful information to post. Well..really don’t know what to do….Any suggestion?...Intel hasn’t answered my email in which I asked the same things you read in my post…Well thanks for your time.

Turned down I/O Burn-in Mode in chipset settings in BIOS
installed HDD Fans
& good Ram Heatsinks
7 Fans (9 if u count the two in my powersupply)
Ducting
Better Chipset Heatsink
Better thermal paste for all heatsinks
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ then lastly a
New Tower thats like a refrigerator

I guess my only option is at this point. To give up on the D865PERL motherboard. I should have gotten the extreme edition it was only 50 more damn $$ and I chinced. LAME.

Actually there must be a problem with this motherboard. I reached the customer service of Intel France in September and what they just tried to do was to find something wrong on my computer: they told me I need a special box "38°c heat with air duct". According to your experiences, it's not a way to resolve this problem.
I've sent yesterday a second new e-mail asking them if they already have thought of compensating us for all the troubles we have with their motherboard. I've given them too the link of this forum page.
Apparently some of you have spent a lot of money in fans, boxes, RAM, etc. There must be an end!
Our demand is justified, fair: nowadays, in this computerized world (!!), we need computers that WORK. If it doesn't work, we want to be paid back or get another thing that is ok, whatever the costs are for Intel... They should matter wether we are satisfied of their products.

I do not claim to be a pro, however the problem of over heating Zone 2 on an Intel D865Perl lead me right to this forum for answers. I found no help here but I have fixed this issue and temperatures are operating within active monitor default settings under all of my big games displayed in highest settings... Doom 3 was built for future technology and will not run under its highest setting yet. So don't fight it, just use the (high) configuations. Here are my simple stats;
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
Intel P4, socket 478, 865PERL
CPU Penitum 4, 3.0GHz, 800 Mhz
RAM DDR 400, 1024MB PC3200 (adding ram did not fix anything)
120GB Harddrive, 400 Watt power supply
(on or off, heat generating lighting accessories and big fans pulling in or out, had little effect on Zone 2's eventual over heating)
Over heating Zone 2 did not stop until I updated the bios for the 865PERL board from the Intel website (one click, automated and very easy to do). I also pointed a medium size blower directly on the Zone 2 area just for good measure. I am not sure which thing fixed the over heating warnings from but this is very simple stuff fellows and it surprized me to acheive this after reading all the complaints in this forum.

I recieved a response from INTEL regarding the problem. As you say, they told me to upgrade the BIOS of my motherboard. The problem is that I am pretty sure I upgraded to the last update available, with no success. Do you have the number of the last bios update?.
By the way thanks Mikedk78 for your response...I was nearly ready to buy the expensive thermal certified case.Although it is never a bad inversion for the PC I think I will wait.
Finally as I asked in my last post, does anyone have an independent panel to check temperature of the CPU, VGA Card, Memories..etc. so as to compare with Intel readings?..It is the easy way to see if Intel reading arent good...Thanks

Don't forget I also have a blower pointed directly at Zone 2, which by the way is not anywhere near the Ram banks on a D865PERL. You can attach a blower if you need it after the update to the bottom of your power supply and affect this area very nicely.
My temps are in the low to middle 40's under load and idle at 29 degrees for Zone 2. The sensor has not tripped at 50 degrees since the fix. I think this does it for me now, time to heat it up with Doom 3... good luck!
