Fan For Soon To be O'ced Cpu

alright i use a socket a amd athlon xp 2400+ cpu. i am wanting to know of a good fan(quiet hopefully) and heatsink and thermal paste that will keep my cpu cool while playing games and o'cing. my computers average cpu temp is 47.0c but when games are played it starts to get a lil toasty. even reaching temps of 54.0.

Arctic Silver 5 is the best thermal paste. I have a Zalman CNPS-7000a-cu heatsink, it cools very well. With the fan turned down, its almost silent, and with it turned up its still not loud and keeps things very cool on my OC'd P4.

wait, do you NEED thermal paste to connect the heatsink to the cpu or does the heatsink come with somthing else to attach the the cpu :o cuz if that is the case, i should go get some  and is it safe to run the computer case on its side (with the side cover removed of course) in case it gets too hot?

The heatsink usually comes with crappy thermal paste. Note: thermal paste doesn't attach the cpu, there are retention clips on the mobo and you screw it all down. Thermal paste is there to provide good heat transfer from the cpu to the heatsink, since a metal-on-metal contact wouldn't do very well.
