p4 2.8ghz cooling problem

Hello i have just purchased a p4 2.8 ghz processor with 865GBF motherboard 512 ram(400 mhz) and ati radeon 9200 se graphics card.

I have two fans one on the processor and other is mounted in the cabinet. The cpu temp shows around 55-57 C. The load on the CPU is not that high. Is this OK or are there any cooling problems.

Pl reply

Those temps are a bit high if the cpu isn't under load, and if they are accurate. How are you monitoring the temps? You don't have much ventilation in your case, can you add a fan?
Also clean off any dust, and check that the heatsink is firmly seated on the cpu.

thanks for the reply

I do not have any monitoring software. The temperature readings are the ones i got from the hardware monitor in the BIOS

There is no more space to add a new fan in the cabinet. But I also have a table fan blowing at my cabinet. The cabinet though is placed in a closed enclosure open only in the front.

Would removing my cabinet cover help, but then will it cause any dust problems.

Is This Processor a P4 Prescott?

Removing the cover might help, but you really should take it out of that enclosure, so you can get some airflow.

No it is a not a prescott. it is a p4 2.8c (800Mhz bus).

I will try bringing it out of the enclosure and measure the temparature.

thanx

The problem was the enclosure which was preventing the air flow. Bringing it out did help. The temp now is in the low 40.

LOL, nice one karsh :) :D that was a pretty big drop in temperature for such an easy solution
