localhost server

hello everyone, here is my problem

i have been trying to set up a server in my house using the static ip address given to me my ISP.

the problem is that they have blocked the HTML, FTP, and some onther ports, im able to view the website i've created on my intranet, i want to be able to let other users outside my network see the website, can some one please tell me how to go around this, or tell me whether i can set up different ports...?

You can change the HTTP ports in the IIS Service Manager, open the management console snapin and look around to find where to change the ports.

If you change the port to say 81, you'll need to make sure this new port is open through your firewall, and use http://123.456.789.1:81/index.html in your browser.

another question, if you don't mind...
i am using a netgear router, the RP114, which i believe have setup properly
and i am also using zone alarm, which doesn't show where to open or close ports, do you know where to do this?...

the router has set up my starting internal ip address to port 9084 on the port forwarding section, i dont know what port that is...

i have setup IIS to listen to port 82 for web pages
and port 24 for FTP

Normally you will use a configuration utility in your router to forward a port to a local computer. In a linksys router, you go to the port forwarding configuration, add the port number (or range) and enter the LAN IP of the target computer.

Zonealarm should pop up a warning asking if you want to allow iis to act as a server, once the outside traffic hits the server computer. In the za popup you can allow this traffic to always be ok.

This may not be of any help but i hade simalar problems but i was not behind a router. If you are using XP and have the XP firewall on you will have to enable the ports on that.

Hi everyone, I've been reading about this opening ports problem on everything I could find on google, but I have still not found a definite answer for my problem.

Here's my situation... I'm trying to create a "message" like server using Visual C#... First, I created a test client and test server program which basically just sends a string to the server then receives a string back and ends.

It seems to work when I open the server, and the client connects to localhost:17777 which is a random port I picked. But, when I use the IP address for the client to connect to, it gives an exception that it couldn't connect.

Now, i'm using Win XP Pro. I DID have the XP firewall running, then turned it off. Either one did not help. I added the port to ports that should be open. But it still didn't help.

Running netstat -an states that port 17777 is LISTENING.

Now, my guess is that something internal in WinXP is causing all these ports to be CLOSEd. But I have no idea how to open just this ONE simple port. Can anyone shed some light? I heard something about IIS but I don't know what that is..could that be it?
