Hello

Please find attached .psd & .gif file, i am trying to transparetn text (using sava as for web ) i checked all option there but only text do not transparent his edge is show different color please let me know how i can solve that,

Regards

you have to select none for the matte option.

Thanks yr mail dear when you select none that distrub your text please check that.

Regards,
Faisal

Here is your image with a transparent background.

When you save as gif make sure "Transparent" background is selected.

I also suggest changing your font, or making sure that the Anti-Alias is set to crisp or smooth, cause it is too rigid.

hello

thanks yr mail, dear i don't know what resource you use for see image, if you will use Internet Explorer (ie) and must change ie background color from tools + internet option----general tab & color, then y can see real image that is transparent or none,

i see yr attachment their is text lost his quality,

please check that,

Regards,
Faisal

hi faisal,

you really need to specifiy a Matte color for text saved with transparency. This needs to be as close as possible to the color of whatever the text is over - ie if the text is over a blue background you need a blue matte.

If the text is over a complex image or pattern then pick the mean average color and use that. If your text is nice and clear the matte will be minimal and you won't really notice it.

Failing that, try making the bg of the text the same as the bg of the page element it is over.

hello

Thnaks yr mail, yes i am almost their using your help, but dear i think we can't make generic transparent image that we can use on every background, i thinks it's bug of photoshop,

once again thanks,

Regards,
Faisal

its not a "bug" of photoshop - its a limitation of the GIF format. Roll on PNG24 support thats what I say!

hello

i understand but my dear Java or VC do not support that extention, if you design icon or image for yr application in that case what y you will do.

regards,
Faisal

i don't develop applications, only web sites and occasionally browser based web applications.

For web applications and on the rare occasions when I have to use a PNG there are ways to force support. Try
this article from a list apart (http://www.alistapart.com/stories/pngopacity/) which gives you couple of different ways to implement PNG properly. I'm sure they can be adapted for Java development

hello

how are you, thanks for your usefull link, i see that but that also do not support Java or VC, nice discussion with you i hope we will meet again with new issue.

once again thanks for yr kind help

Regards,
Faisal

Faisal,

It is not impossible to create transparent gifs, in fact most gifs are transparent. As for the low quality of the image, that is due to the fact that the text was not properly done. I will upload a different gif that has a transparent background as well as text.

Here is how I saved it.

Delete background from layers menu
Save as gif

Here is what my preferences looked like

hello

Dear ! how are you, thanks your mail i see your attachment please y also see again in Internet Explorer and changed IE backgroud black or dark gray, using matte option we can make transparent image for some specific background, but now there is no issure just transparent image, main issue is this how we can make Generic Transparent image which i can useded for every backgroud,

Please see last mail of senior member ...icy_polecat... their is very usefull link i hope you will also learn to much with the help of that
link.

Regards,
Faisal

K, I think I've reached a point of frustration. I have been developing web based graphics, as well as printing graphics for the past 8 years now. I have created numerous .gif images that are transparent.

I need someone else in here, 1 who can speak english, and 2 who is a professional graphic artist and photoshop user.

Icy_Polecat,

Please do me a favor cause I know you know photoshop, and read my last 2 or 3 posts and tell me if my image is not transparent. I opened that same image the way everyone else can, by clicking the hypertext link and having it open in a new window. I then went to Tools in my Internet Explorer options and choose "Internet Options". I then clicked on the "Colors" button on the bottom left hand corner. That opened up a new window. I then unchecked "Use Window colors" and chose my own new colors for the background. I chose the color blue. The background of the window became blue and the image's background became blue as well.

I really need to know if I am doing this incorrectly because I must have sent off a thousand gif images before and as it would appear our friend sftaa is telling me that my image is not a proper transparent gif and that the background will not change.

My only guess is that they are using the image in some soft of program or application where it does not accept transparent images and in turn creates an automatic white background for any image that is transparent.

Please any of the other mods here or members who know about photoshop, let me know what is going on.

Thank you,
a very frustrated RedDog

hello

Dear ! pleae find attached sanpshot of your transparent image,
i am professional graphic / web artist and also use all that graphic tool which y use their is not issue ....of soft of program or application.... i made that snapshot using IE 5.5, you can also check after changed background of your IE.

In short word i try to explain all summary,

- Mian issure was ....Generic Transparent Image.....

- Below of summary all discussion

1- We can't make generic transparent image because ....GIF only supports binary transparency.....

2-Only using png-24 format (save as web + settings) you can make generic image because PNG supports alpha transparency And a transparent PNG is background-independent—it can live on any background color or image. see this link http://www.alistapart.com/stories/pngopacity/

But PNG format do not support old browser and application like as Visual C++, Java

3- Visit this link ...http://www.wise-women.org/tutorials/ps1/... i hope after reed that you will understand GIF format can't make generic image.

Regards,
Faisal

ok,

this is getting a little heated.

Red Dog - your image is indeed a perfect example of a transparent GIF which works quite happily in IE, Moz, Op and NN on a variety of different BG's. :D

I think the problem has occured in that Faisal is attempting to create an image with true Alpha Transparency, As we all know GIF's only support Binary transparency which means that, whilst us Web folks can create resonably good transparent images, we can't really compare with the transparency features offered by formats such as PNG and TIFF.

I don't think the Tranparency of Red Dog's GIF is in question. Rather I believe that Faisal is after finer control of the transparency than the GIF format offers.

I thinks thats all that needs to be said on the matter.

Oh and Faisal ... quick tip - you may want to revise your use of the word "dear" in posting ... its a little more familier than we westerners like to get. ;)

Icy

This would have been a lot easier if someone mentioned Alpha transparencies to begin with. Thanks Icy_Polecat and Faisal, sorry about my last post, it was just frustrating when you ask for a generic gif and say that the gif i uploaded is in fact not a transparent gif and that your IE background doesn't change.

GOod luck with your program.
