Blend Layer Overlaps ????

If you want to paste several different pics into one and blend their overlapping edges into one another (very common on websites), how do you do it???? I can create the different layers easy enough but don't know how to do the overlap part. Please help .

The best way to show you how to do this is just "show" you. I have attatched a quick example of how to blend photo's together. The best way is figure out what you want where then place them. Then take the eracer tool and put it on airbrush to the size you wish. Put the Opacity to about 35 percent so that it doesnt take 100 percent of the picture but 35. Then slowly start taking away the parts that you dont want until the photos come together.

Another tip is to select "screen" as the layer style of your current layer.

just like this.....

layer 2 - screen
layer 1 - normal

hope that helps.

Yeah good point. Just play with it and remeber you can do undo anytime you need.

The technique I prefer is using layer masks. That lets you selectively control the transparency of any part of any layer without losing any image data (the way you will the eraser). You can add a layer mask to a layer through the Layer menu, or by right-clicking on layer in the layer menu (I think). Painting black&white on the layer mask changes the opacity of the layer.

bricker42 is right too. but i find it hard to use layer masks. i wonder if anyone can give a tip or a motivation to me regarding the proper use of layer masks.

What exactly are you finding hard about them? You can use most of the other techniques with layer masks, you just have to use black paint instead of deleting the data. I'd be happy to make suggestions if you can think of anything specific :D.

Hey bricker42, Just what I was looking to learn. Well, I once saw a website of a member here (sorry, I can't remember thr URL) but when you pass your mouse over the photos, they would alternate between being bright and dark. When I asked him he said he used layer masks but would not explain

IT is pretty easy, hit the layer mask button on the bottom of the layers pallette. Black erases, white replaces. To get a smooth fade use the gradient tool with white to black bend and use it in the layer mask. Play aound you will find your own technique. i use a combination of masks, erasers, layers option etc.
