Switching on AGP feature

halo

I just installed a brand new AGP card (MSI nBox FX5600) onto my AGP slot in my motherboard. Assuming it is all automatic, userfriendly, and PnP; I guess there is all to it. Slot the Card into the AGP slot, install the accompanying VGA driver and everything is roaring to go.

Then I realise, my AGP card is not AGP enabled. Thats why when i start to play games, theres no improvement over my old pc or the game cant start at all. It works fine for non graphic intensive or non-directx appns.

So i was wondering is there something i miss? I read both motherboard and graphics card manuals and i dont see anything amiss. What normally is required to activate AGP feature for graphics card?

Thanks once again.... :)

You do need to tell your games to use DirectX or hardware rendering, by default they will use software rendering. Go into the video/display options in the game and check its settings.

thanks... :)

Sometimes i wonder why certain companies advertise their customer support when they never seem to respond. I get much better assistance here than them.

if your computer is a "bought" pc like a dell , compaq, hp...... you may or may not have these options. but on system start up enter the bios screen and if you have the agp advanced controls make sure you have it set to agp as first video adapter, disable the on board if you have it and dont wish to run dual monitors. make sure the apature is set to the amount of video ram you card came with. and check the motherboard specs and the card specs if they both can run 2x 4x or 8x. make sure you have the latest video drivers, chipset drivers and directX versions for your hardware, and isnt a bad idea to check windows updates for bug fixes for those after you get them installed.

I've actually run into a similar problem.

I've recently had to format my HD and reinstall my programs. When I run the game Lineage II, a pop-up window appears asking me to activate my AGP for 'consistency'. I've never had this problem before. I've downloaded and installed new Graphics drivers (Omegadrivers.com) for my ATI x800 pro, and tried to switch on the AGP using the driver's SMARTGART feature. After restarting, the setting revert to the way they had been, the AGP still off. I am so very confused.

I think I've included all the information needed..
anything else please let me know. I'll keep this topic bookmarked. Thank you in advance!
