I think it's good step to Add Python and ColdFusion forums.
What do you guess the future of ColdFusion ?

yeah cold fusion is not bad i use bits of it to create letters for my mySQL db and it works brill. still can't grasp it like PHP though
I'd never even heard of ColdFusion till this thread. I had to google it ;)
I've been using PHP for awhile now and recently got a promotion at work to the development team which uses Coldfusion primarily. I'm hoping that the Coldfusion forum grows a bit. From what Ihave done in CF I like it as its very newbie friendly. However sometimes I miss the control (read explicitly spelling out a process) that PHP requires which CF doesn't. Sometimes it comes down to CF's way or the highway which kinda sucks.:eek:
I have never worked with Coldfusion. I know that's from Macromedia (Adobe) cause Coldfusion was part of Macromedia Studio series.
I rather stick to PHP, if I wanna try another SSI language I would go for Python or Ruby.
Congrats on the new forum indeed. ColdFusion is still running strong and is used by many companys globally. CF is, in my opinion, still one of the best RAD languages out there, and is quite easy to pick up, expecially if you already have a handle on how tags work (XML/HTML, etc).

Coldfusion is not a dead language.
Its used a lot in the corporate world and is a very powerful web programming language.
As ChristopherK said for basic database transactions , it can be easy to understand and quick to code but also can be a powerful language using corba, soap, flex and flash. Also as Coldfusion is Java based it can utilise the Java programming language which that in itself is very powerful.
I think coldfusion has a huge future ahead as its designed on an Enterprise architecture, which is scalable and future proof. It has a massive corporate company (adobe) developing and supporting it and the user base is huge.

Matt i couldn't agree more! Coldfusion is indeed a powerful language. I program everyday in it for my job, and i program every night in php for personal stuff. PHP is great cause is free, no question about it. Anyone can learn it, and anyone can afford it. Coldfusion however is expensive. But in the corperate world $1500 for an "enterprise" version server really isn't all that much. Since it is based on java as you mentioned you can even go as far as programming java objects using cfscript. I'm pretty sure the majority of people on this board would agree that java is pretty powerful. I don't think is a dying breed on any type, its just not found as often on forums such as this one.
Has anyone ever attended the adobe max conference? (just out of couriosity)
I've been using CF since 1998 and love it. We use it for all our sites and I find it easy to use. I'm just now trying to wrap my head around the new OO features using components.
