ColdFusion programmers

How many coldfusion programmers are here?

I sort of still know ColdFusion, I haven't done it over 2 years now but I was pretty good several years ago when I had to learn it to fix some legacy applications at a previous job.

It is a language that has lost a lot of popularity to PHP and ASP/ASP.net imo but I'm not sad to see it go.

I am, been a CF developer for about 3 years. Newbie for CodingForums, however. Hope the forum takes off :)

i've been in since v4.0 / Allaire days.

I am as well. Been programming with it 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for about 5 or 6 months now. The company i work for is 100% coldfusion based, developing several different types of coldfusion applications (mainly integrated with a CMS, intranet, and extranet). In the short time i've been using it i love it!

Glad to see this forum pop up on here. Hopefully we'll get some more developers here.

ive been a coldfusion programmer since dec. 2005 until now.. our company uses coldfusion for web development

I've been developing in ColdFusion for 7 years.

What can ColdFusion do that PHP can't? I know very little about ColdFusion.

This (http://www.simtropolis.com/index.cfm?) is perhaps my favorite CMS powered website, and I have to mention it's powered by CF (no not CodingForums lol). Not only did I visit it a hell of a lot when I played sim city, but it's a reminder to me of the possibilities of the web.

I've been developing cold fusion since 4.0, although these days I use PHP and haven't touched CF since 6.1

What version are they up to now? 8? Is it any better?

Hi,

Been programming in cf for around three years.
My company use it for internal applications.

You would be better off seraching this forum or Googling "coldfusion vs. php". There are a lot of threads on this topic, both environments have their pro's and con's and both sides have their fanatics.

As to the topic of this thread, I started using CF in 1999-2000'ish.

Another CF programmer here with 10 years of experience under my wings.

I have been doing CF development for almost a year now. It would be really nice if this forum could take off more. Maybe the lack of use is a state of coldfusion's popularity :p It is pretty easy to code in for me, but wish it had a more OOP framework in my dev work. (It can be, if you develop from scratch the right way.)

Another ColdFusion programmer here with 2+ years experience. But, our company now uses PHP than ColdFusion..

many things!!! very easily and quickly..But lack of usage is reduces its popularity

I've been working with ColdFusion for about seven years now.

I've been coding for about nine years and still do on a daily basis.

I'm a CF developer with 9 years of experience (from the Allaire CF4 days as well!)

And yes, IMO you can do a lot more, with much less effort in ColdFusion than can be done in php. Unfortunately, I think its cost and somewhat limited ability to be placed on hosting servers limits its popularity.

I'm a CF Developer and have been using it since version 2 (Allaire!). I still use it every day.

Hello,

I need a CF coder.
Here's my issue:

We have have a co-location client with an ecommerce site on their server.

They had a server configured with Windows Server 2000, SQL Server 2000 and Cold Fusion Server 5 for 6-7 years. Recently we began having trouble with it.

It’s having periods where it reboots, where CF restarts, etc.

We have ruled out hardware issues. Cloned it to a different box and the problem went with it.

As part of the remedy, we’ve upgraded/updated their server. We were going to do a new install of every piece of software and as such it was decided to go with all updated versions. The new server now has Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Cold Fusion Server 2008. Until the new server is ready to go live, the old server (which still has problems) is the server where the website is live.

The web files have been copied over.

IIS has been set up (the main site as well as the secured site for checkout).

The SQL databases as well as users and logins have been copied over.

The ODBC connections in Cold Fusion have been configured.

The custom tags in Cold Fusion have been configured.

We are currently getting an error when we click on any of their product categories. The exact same web files work on the server with the older software.

It was suggested to me in another forum that I run the Code Analyzer. I did so and it did reveal problems, but I am not a coder so remedying them is beyond me. I would also be glad to get the old server to behave, if that would allow more time to sort out the code issues on the new server. In any event, I need to get a stable site for the customer.

Are you available for hire for this kind of project and, if so, can you provide me with references and rates?

Thanks,
Katie

Turns out the client purchased a newer copy of CF Webstore last year and wasn't able to install it on their server that had CF 5 at the time. We're gonna try installing that and see how it goes... Should replace all the code, I hope.
